Socializing Your German Shepherd The Easy Way

I have never taken things casually and do not hesitate calling a spade a spade. I have been misunderstood for the same on a number of occasions, but I do not mind. I am of the opinion that people who do not bother to train their pets should never go in for a German Shepherd. By their nature, these canine friends are extremely loyal and faithful to their masters and if they are trained properly, they will prove to be your best friends. Most people do not bother to train their German Shepherds and rue the fact later on. You should start socializing your German Shepherd from a young age. Would you love it if your boss came to your place for dinner but had to run away just because your German Shepherd chased him away?

This is one of the bets ways to get rid yourself of a job. You have just yourself to blame. Do not blame the animal since you did not bother to train them in socializing. Dogs are friendly animals, but they have to be taught how to socialize and the sooner you do it the better. You should remember that these dogs are not born with knowledge to recognize your commands, therefore they must be trained to understand what you want to convey to them. One should also remember that each breed of dogs have got their own particular ways of training so what might work well with a lhasa will not work for a German Shepherd. One must have noticed that most dogs start barking when they see other animals and even when they see other dogs.

This is not the case with German Shepherds who are far more social than other breed of dogs. They love social structure and if you undertake socializing your German Shepherd from a young age and teach it to be social with other animals and human beings, you will see how well they behave with visitors at your place. However, it does not mean that they should behave properly with criminals and burglars as well. This is the most important part of socializing your German Shepherd. They have to understand when to be welcome and when not to. Their training should be such that they can understand the body language of their owners and be able to tell a friend from a foe.

This might sound tough, but if you have gone about socializing your German Shepherd properly, this should not be a problem. Apart from being social, these particular breed of dogs learn fast. You must have seen the number of German Shepherds the police force has. This is mute testimony to their learning capabilities and also shows how hard working these dogs are. If you think that you need some help on training your Shepherd dog, we strongly recommend you to read "German Shepherd Handbook" by Michael Tapscott.
